June 23 is the new date set for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) general election.
The GTB announced last week that it would be postponing its general election, which was originally scheduled for June 2, “until further notice.” The general election was first slated for May 5, but the tribe also postponed that date and later rescheduled it to June 2.
GTB election regulations state that the general election will be conducted to fill three tribal council positions that expire upon the election and the swearing in of their successors. The tribal council members whose terms expire this year include: Tina Frankenberger, Brian Napont, and Jane Rohl. The candidates for tribal council that receive the highest number of votes will be elected for a term expiring in May 2030.
