League members eyeball voter rights

At a recent League of Women Voters of Leelanau County forum, local election officials and workers offered detailed answers and a reassuring look at the systems designed to protect the integrity of Michigan elections. The forum video offers Michigan residents an easy way to get answers, and LWVLC encourages everyone to share it throughout this election season.

The May 6 forum, “Election Security: Understanding How the System Gets It Right,” featured Sarah Lutz, City Clerk for the City of Traverse City, along with local election workers who help administer elections in the region. Together, they explained how Michigan’s election system operates, the safeguards built into every step of the process, and why voters can have confidence that every eligible ballot is counted accurately.

Throughout the discussion, panelists emphasized that election security is not based on any single safeguard but on layers of procedures, bipartisan oversight, public accountability, and trained local officials working together.
