Leland junior Hayden VanSteenhouse finished tied for sixth with a 154 after 36 holes during the MHSAA boys D4 state championship Friday and Saturdat at Forest Akers West (MSU).

The junior recovered from a mid-round lapse to earn the all-state nomination.

VanSteenhouse started hot with two birdies and three pars to start his first round Friday.

The junior would have multiple doubles in the rain to close  out the first match but remained in the top-10 after day one with an 80. From live music on the water to wine country performances and community gatherings, Leelanau County's calendar is packed through the end of June.

Whatever adjustments, Vansteenhouse made overnight paid off in a big way, as the junior did not card a bogey all night.

Starting on hole four  for the second straight day, VanSteenhouse came out composed and controlled, playing the front side like he did in day one. This time, he didn’t let up despite multiple tough positions throughout the round to finish with a 75 in round two for a tournament total of 154.

Glen Lake finished 12th overall as a team at the state championships.
