People will begin seeing thousands of small brown paper bags inserted in local papers like the Leelanau Enterprise this week — and these bags could very well change a child’s life.
Child and Family Services (CFS) of Northwestern Michigan, which helps hundreds of children heal from trauma through foster care and other critical programs every year, is kicking off its annual Brown Bag Campaign this week. The brown bag serves as a reminder of the difficult circumstances many children face and helps to highlight the ongoing need for foster and adoptive families that can provide safety, stability, and love.
Since the brown bag campaign’s inception in 1989, more than $656,000 has been raised to meet the needs of children in foster care, with funds providing for things like clothing, school supplies, transportation, and life enriching opportunities whether that be music lessons, sports, and summer camp.
