Stories of the ranch, poems, recipes, and even a tale of two pigs can be found in a new student- led newspaper based in Lake Leelanau.

The six current students, who vary in grades 3-8, part of a co-op home school group that lives within a mile of each other in Leelanau County, put out the first edition of their publication titled “The Penniker Paper” in April. Student authors in the first edition included Adele, Clara, and Eliza Swinger, Irene and Rose Spinniken, and Sena Penninga.

The name “Penniker” is a letter combination of all three families last names. The Penniker’s first edition was printed on two pages front and back, but they hope to expand its featured content over the next year with more contributions from students in their co-op homeschool group.
