BLOTTER: Caller kayaked out to South Manitou from Glen Haven and can't find supplies

Wednesday, June 3

8:37 a.m. — Empire Township — Illegal bus passing.

8:45 a.m. — Leland Township — Caller’s brother buried a box of suspicious items in an area on their old property.

9 a.m. — Kasson Township — Person staying there took large amounts of cash.

9:13 a.m. —Bingham Township — Identity theft. Someone used caller’s identity to purchase goods online.

10:12 a.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Caller has seasonal condo. Came up on Memorial Day weekend and her canoe was missing.

10:28 a.m. — Glen Arbor Township —Caller saw someone on an SUP one mile out. Caller now sees empty SUP in front of the house. Can not tell it if is the same one. No paddle on or near it.

11:06 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Sister from Kent County requests a welfare check on sister. (Sister found in Grand Rapids homeless shelter.)

3 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township— Caller says subject yelled at her about her parking. Ongoing issue with this man. (Deputy spoke with caller.)

4:04 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller is very concerned about speeders on Grandview Road. Would like additional patrols and placement of the radar trailer to remind motorist of the speed limit.

9:32 p.m. — Solon Township — Caller believes his lime spreader has been stolen.

10:27 p.m. — Solon Township — Someone hit and knocked over caller’s mailbox.

Friday, June 5

12:52 a.m. — Bingham Township — Cow in the road.

1:34 a.m. — Elmwood Township — White Yukon. Sobriety exam given. One arrest for operating while intoxicated.

3:15 a.m. — Glen Arbor Township — D.H. Day Campground. Rowdy kids at site nearby. Caller doesn’t want to ask them to quiet down. Would like a ranger or law enforcement to ask them to keep it down.

4:53 a.m. — Bingham Township — House or two east of where caller is calling from. Male is screaming and it sounds like they have mental issues.

1:14 p.m. — Empire Township — Caller wants to speak to someone about pallets that were dropped off on the corner of caller’s property.

3:37 p.m. — Solon Township — Boat on fire at Paradise Cove Campground.

7:08 p.m. — Solon Township — Maroon Chevy Malibu tried to drive over the creek and his vehicle is partially in the creek. Deputy out with drive. Arrest made for operating while intoxicated.

7:12 p.m. — Empire Township — Driver pulled over. Sobriety exam given. Driver in custody for operating while intoxicated.

8:54 p.m. — Empire Township — Caller has a gator (UTV) sitting on her private land. Has been there around 50 minutes. Two men inside. (Caller call back to advised that the UTV was moved.)

Saturday, June 6

12:56 a.m. — Bingham Township — Female, 21, was in Munson for mental health issues. She’s out now and seeing and hearing things Female called caller stating that she is lost and scared. Caller’s wife will be heading their to help.

1:17 a.m. — Kasson Township — Caller asked a female to leave. She will not leave. Both parties have been drinking.

2:25 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Vehicle stopped. Sobriety test given. One in custody for operating while intoxicated.

2:49 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Domestic.

6:22 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Black van stopped. One in custody on a weapons violation.

9:12 a.m. — Leland Township — Caller is at her rental property, which she has owned since 2020. Found items in a cupboard with wine bottles.

11:33 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Domestic. Caller advised her dad attacked her. Unknown weapons. Has been drinking. (Situation has calmed down. One in custody.)

1:38 p.m. — Empire Township — Multiple storage units had locks broken off. Caller advised she doesn’t need a police report but thought it should be passed along.

4:39 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Family trouble/ Subject is threatening his dad.

5:24 p.m. —Bingham Township — Pit bull attacked a deer in the orchard. Deer needs to be put down.

5:45 p.m. — Solon Township — Dirt bikes with teens going up an down the road at high rate of speed and very loud for several hours a day.

6:02 p.m. — Leland Township— Calf on the wrong side of the fence. Owner was contacted they will take care of the calf.

7:27 p.m. — Elmwood Township —Motorcycling flying up and down Cherry Bend, right on people’s bumper. Caller would like someone to respond and extra patrols in the area. ( Law enforcement unable to locate motorcycle.)

7:40 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Green Mustang is driving erratically and almost ran the caller off the road.

11:15 p.m. — Empire Township — Male with gray hair, gray shirt came up to caller’s window and was screaming and searing at the caller for having her lights on. Big tent on the beach with six cars in the parking lot. (Deputy spoke with people on the beach and they have been informed there’s no overnight camping.”)

Monday, June8

6:19 a.m. —Glen Arbor Township —Road Commission is going to have State and Oak Streets shutdown to the public. Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through.

8:27 a.m. — Kasson Township — Caller came around corner and found four cows in the roadway.

10:21 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Daughter’s ex-boyfriend keeps coming back. Moved out a month ago. No weapons. Caller has had drinks. Unsure about the other party. (One in custody.)

1:21 — Elmwood Township — Gray VW with younger kid, heavyset, unknown if male or female; tailgated caller and then passed on S curves on Grandview Road; pulled out in front of vehicles on M-22 that had to slam on their brakes. Caller is a retired law enforcement officer and wishes to sign a ticket and go to court over the violation. (Caller was concerned about the carelessness of the driver but couldn’t positive ID them. Closed with no report.)

2:30 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller thinks her phone was stolen from her car while she was in jail.

2:54 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller’s mom owns property. Recently had neighbors move in next door. They cut trees on her property to get a view of the bay. (Only minor brush. It’s a civil issue. Deputies suggested caller to contact new neighbors.)

3:29 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Subject called to say he had committed a crime. Hostile situation. (Subject taken to Munson for an evaluation.)

6:16 p.m. — Elmwood Township— Theft of a travel trailer reported.

6:33 p.m. — Leland Township — Caller went outside this morning and his tires on his truck had been slashed.

6:53 p.m. — Leland Township — Caller needs to file a police report because someone filed a tax return in her name fraudulently. Got a letter from the State of Michigan saying this. They need to get the refund to the right person.

8:15 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Truck in road on fire. Caller states the driver is intoxicated. Sobriety tests given. One in custody for operating while intoxicated.

9:01 p.m. —Glen Arbor — Caller kayaked out to South Manitou from Glen Haven with a red backpack and white trash bag with dry clothes, car keys and food was with him in his kayak. Just arrived on the island and it’s not in the kayak.
