Summer visitors return to Omena

The Northport/Omena Community Blood Drive, the most scenic blood drive location in America, is back again at the Northport Marina on Wednesday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Your donation is vital to helping people who are battling illnesses or as a result of accidents. Local volunteers have helped to organize the Versiti Blood Mobile coming to Northport. It couldn’t be simpler or more convenient to give. You can make an appointment now by going to versiti.org.

The summer season is definitely underway, with family and friends visiting the area. Susan “Suzy” Morse Saxton Wheeler and Harriet Morse Harrison Leavell have been friends since the Saxtons moved to Waco, Texas in 1964, when they were four years old. Suzy and Harriet have been friends for over 60 years. Harriet, who was here last week, first visited the Saxton’s Omena cottage in 2015 and has come up almost every summer since then. Harriet and Suzy have always said they’re related because they have the middle name of Morse, a family name for both. They are godparents to each other’s children as well. It is such a blessing to have lifelong friends, and very special to share Omena with them.

Suzy is enjoying three other houseguests this week — Leslie Powell, who has been here before, and is from Dripping Springs, outside of Austin, Texas; Carla Johnson from the panhandle of Texas, and Cyndy Reneau from Wichita Falls, Texas. It is Carla and Cyndy’s first time here.
