Goodbye, Leland

To the editor:

Our good friends introduced us to the Leelanau in 1977 and we have spent every July since 1988 in the Leland River Townhouse across from Stander Marine with our faithful boat the “Half Gast.”

We have enjoyed so many celebrations: birthdays, engagements, family reunions and anniversaries. Our children and their children return for the annual parades, art fairs, music and treasure hunts. But all good things must end. This could be our last summer. The boat has been diagnosed with “osteoporosis of the stringers” and the townhouse has been sold. We will miss our afternoon “docktails”, waving to our friends and strangers - in the ever-constant boat parade. We will miss the unique world that is Fishtown. We will miss the best sunsets even with the “lslands in the way.” Thanks for the memories.
