The benefits of assisted living facilities might outweigh any cons or unease when considering where to relocate in your senior years if in need of some extra assistance.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population estimate for Leelanau County in 2025 was 22,982, with more than 35% of that population being persons 65 years or older. As the population in the county ages, assisted living facilities are becoming more of a reality for many in the region as they search for residential housing options to better suit their needs.

Karen Anderson, CEO of Cordia, a retirement community located at the Grand Traverse Commons, said the most important benefit of senior and assisted living is the bringing together of people to live in community, which prevents the isolation that often comes from living at home alone as seniors’ physical and cognitive abilities decline.
