The head of the environmental consulting firm that will oversee the planned demolition of Sugar Loaf Resort this summer said he has “no idea” who actually owns the resort. Envirologic Technologies of Kalamazoo this week issued news releases announcing that a contract had been awarded to another Kalamazoo-based firm, Taplin Enterprises, “for demolition of the hotel and other ancillary structures at the former ski resort property.” *** More negotiations appear to be in store before any decisions are made on the fate of public access to the Lake Michigan shoreline at the end of Reynolds Street in Leland Township. On Monday evening, the Leland Township Board voted 3-2 to rescind its earlier approval of a settlement agreement in a lawsuit filed against the township and the Leelanau County Road Commission by the owners of two private properties on either side of the street.
