To the editor:
It appears that our County Administrator will enjoy a 2-month mid-summer, paid leave holiday courtesy of our Board of Commissioners. But no worries, county taxpayers will pick up the tab, just as they pay for empty BATA school buses running up and down M-22 on Route 10, which makes 40 round-trips weekly with few, if any, passengers on board (I am a daily eyewitness) and with most riders being biking tourists catching a cheap ride back to Traverse City.
And to fund a Health Department organizing 1-hour weekly “Play Groups” for around 15% of the roughly 1,000 county children age 0-6 (something county mothers could and SHOULD do themselves using social media at no public expense at all). BATA’s annual Leelanau millage endowment is around $1,635,000 and Parenting Communities (education programs administered by the Health Department!) consumes $728,000 of property taxes with a further increase to $926,000 when adding new child care vouchers (Confiscation and redistribution with creeping government expansion at its finest). One wonders what other new useless government programs await the hoi polloi from our mandarins on Duck Lake Road. But in the meantime let’s hope that our administrator is a golfer or sailor and uses his windfall holiday to lower his handicap or cruise the North Channel.
