BOYS TRACK DREAM TEAM
MVP: Jacob Plamondon (Glen Lake) Glen Lake senior Jacob Plamondon earned the Dream Team MVP to cap off his senior season. Plamondon won the high jump D4 state championship with a height of six feet two inches in June. Plamondon was mostly only a high jumper, as he was nursing a knee injury that almost sidelined him for the state championships. Despite the low jump — four inches off his personal record — Plamondon nailed his final attempt to end his career as a state champion. Plamondon’s track Dream Team MVP goes along with his MVP during the basketball season, ending his career as a Laker.
Daniel Chaney (St. Mary)
Lake Leelanau St. Mary junior Daniel Chaney earned his spot on the Dream Team after an impressive 10th-place finish at the D4 state championships with a time of 10:18. The furious junior won a regional championship in the two-mile as one of the area’s best longdistance runners with a time of 10:15.
4x100 & 4x200 relays (Glen Lake)
The Glen Lake 4x100 and 4x200-relay teams earned spots on the Dream Team after breaking multiple school records throughout the spring season and finishing among the state’s best. The Lakers’ 4x100-relay team of Max Galla, Sam Dykstra, Breckin Nerg and Liam Palmer blazed to a second-place finishing time of 43.99 at the D4 state championships. The 4x200-relay team of Hunter Kemp, Hunter Cox, Nerg and Palmer led the 4x200-relay team to a fifth-place state finals finish (1:32). “They’re all competitors. It didn’t matter throughout the week; once the meets came along, they came out and wanted to compete. They represented Glen Lake and they competed hard … They left their footprint on the Glen Lake program,” Glen Lake track coach Jason Bradford said.
Both relay teams are the new record holders of their events after breaking the school records at the Traverse City Record-Eagle meet before the state championships. The Laker relay teams captured regional championships in both races.
Palmer competed in both relays and qualified for the state championships in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Galla started first in the 4x100 relay and narrowly made his way to the finals of the 100-meter dash before being the last one out. Kemp contributed to the 4x200 relay and earned all-state honors in the 300-meter hurdles with an eighth-place finish.
