A $8.7 million budget for the 2026-27 school year was adopted recently by the Suttons Bay Board of Education.
Beginning with revenue, the biggest chunk of funds comes from the 18-mills collected from non-Homestead, non-agricultural property. About $5.7 million will come from this source, up from $5.1 last year.
State revenue is considered to be the district’s second-largest funding base at $2.1 million. And federal revenue is of $175,027 also included in revenue.
Expenditures next year were set at $8.5 million. Much of the expenses are for instruction and support services. Some $3.9 million is identified for instruction , while supporting services comes in at $4.4 million.
The biggest expense in this category is for plant operation and maintenance ($1.1 million); general administration support services ($656,091); school administration support services ($654,305) and student transportation ($652,340).
Overall, the district is expected to spend $152,711 less than the total revenue, leaving an ending balance at $1,168,242.
In other business following the June 15 budget hearing the board:
• Approved the retirement of Sarah Jane Johnson as lead Great Start Readiness Program teacher.
• Approved the resignation of elementary teacher Joe Symons.
• Approved the non-renewal of Noah Phillips, middle school social studies teacher and Katlyn Kranick, elementary teacher.
• Approved the contract for Libby Wadsworth as elementary assistant principal and director of professional learning through June 20, 2029.
