Kids Fishing Day is a uniquely Leelanau event after having taught outdoor fun to thousands of youngsters and gained the financial and volunteer support of dozens of organizations, businesses and individuals.
Its 26th rendition will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Veronica Valley County Park.
Kids Fishing Pond, planted with thousands of bluegill, will be the main attraction. The MDNR has fishing poles to lend, free bait will be provided and volunteers will be available to help teach fishing basics — and help unhook your catch.
Free hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be provided. Also available will be a handson fish art program, fly fishing instructions by world-renown bamboo flyrod turner Bob Summers, fish cleaning instructions and youth activities offered by the Lake Leelanau Lake Association.
