Limited-use churches need to keep history alive

Congregations of three Catholic parishes on the peninsula will celebrate their last Mass Sunday.

The Diocese of Gaylord downgraded the churches to limited-use early this spring with an effective date of June 28.

Across the diocese, 20 parishes have received this designation, including: the Leelanau parishes of St. Gertrude, Northport; St. Rita/St. Joseph, Maple City and St. Wenceslaus, Gill’s Pier.
