GTB unofficial election results released

The Grand Traverse Band (GTB) of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians held its general election on Tuesday after months of postponement and released the unofficial results after the polls closed.

The top three candidates for tribal council were narrowed down to: Incumbent Brian Napont with 173 votes; and both Ryan Memberto and Francis Carew with a total of 166 votes. The results are subject to final certification. The candidates for tribal council that receive the highest number of votes will be elected for a four-year term expiring in May 2030.

The total voter turnout for the general election this year, according to the unofficial election results, was approximately 39%, the same total participation percentage from the general election in 2024. The highest total voter turnout precinct was in Peshawbestown, with 161 voters accounted for, and the second highest precinct being in Traverse City, with 125 voters.
