Warren & Flick at the Old Art Building
The Old Art Building (OAB) in Leland invites music lovers to experience an extraordinary, live performance by the critically acclaimed acoustic string duo, Warren & Flick, on Tuesday, July 14.
Known for crafting a captivating sound that feels both grounded and adventurous, Jacob Warren and Grant Flick effortlessly blur stylistic lines. The duo blends original compositions and complex improvisation with elements of classical, jazz, and folk traditions. Attendees can expect a dynamic performance showcasing a unique multi-instrumental arrangement, featuring Jacob Warren on double bass and tenor bass, alongside Grant Flick on violin, tenor guitar, and the traditional Swedish nyckelharpa. Jacob and Grant first met in 2015 at the Savannah Music Festival’s Acoustic Music Seminar, sparked by a shared musical curiosity that has since evolved into a deeply collaborative partnership. Both musicians are distinguished graduates of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Together, their accolades include being named finalists in the 2024 Concert Artists Guild Competition and headlining the 2025 International Society of Bassists (ISB) Convention, following Jacob’s first-prize win at the ISB Solo Competition in 2023. The concert will highlight the duo’s musical evolution, featuring selections from across their discography—including their debut album Kestrel (2019), the genre-bending Waxwing (2022), and their latest record, Cormorant (2025), which is brimming with vibrant sonic color and inventive textures. In addition to their performing and recording careers, Warren & Flick are passionate educators and advocates for living musical traditions.
