To the editor:
Boy, time flies. Especially when you get older. It seems like only yesterday that Leelanau voters approved the Senior Services millage renewal. But, here we are two years later with the same request of the voters. Last year 1,309 older adults were served directly by Senior Services to help these folks age in place. Six-hundred, fifty-nine medical and wellness rides were coordinated and 346 pieces of medical equipment were loaned through the loan closet. Leelanau is aging fast with 44% of the population being over 60. This is a renewal request for 0.320 mills for four years with no increase. There has not been an increase request since 2018. This rate will cost the taxpayers 32 cents per $1,000 of taxable value per year. I find this a bargain to keep our older folks in place and well cared for. Please vote for the renewal on August 4th.
