Severe rainfall caused heavy flooding throughout the village of Northport Monday morning, with much of the area receiving anywhere between 3.5 to 5.5 inches of rain within a couple of hours.

No injuries from the flooding were reported as of Monday afternoon, and a flood advisory issued by the National Weather Service was in place until 12:15 p.m. for northern Leelanau County.

Northport Village Council President and village resident Chris McCann, who was working at the Northport Creek Golf Course during the heavy downpour, said the severe weather event was unlike anything he’s seen before in his 40-plus years of living in the village.
