Leland Township Fire Chief Dan Besson has been named “Fire Chief of the Year” by the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs.
The Leland Township Board recognized this achievement with a resolution at Monday’s monthly board meeting.
“(It’s) one of the highest honors bestowed upon fire service leaders in the State of Michigan,” the resolution stated. “The board … formally recognizes and honors (Besson) for his extraordinary contributions and dedicated service to Leland Township.”
The resolution also acknowledged Besson’s “unwaivering commitment to excellence” that has a lasting, positive impact on colleagues, township residents, and surrounding communities.
Besson said he was grateful for the recognition but deflected the attention.
“Honestly, my name may be on the award, but this is a team win,” he said “I may be the one who determines the department’s culture, mission, and standard of care we want to have as an organization. But it is the men and women who proudly serve Leland Township that go out there at all hours of the day and night and in all sorts of conditions, who execute it.”
