It was a sight all too familiar along the shorelines of the Great Lakes. Only this time the behavior crossed a line lifelong Northport resident Josh Rutila was no longer willing to ignore. Public access to water and beaches and property rights of nearby homeowners have caused neighborly disputes for decades in Northport and it all came to a head on July 4. *** An independent Lake Leelanau Preservation Board will not be established anytime soon, although the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners agreed this week to spend $12,000 on a study to find out how the lake might be saved from an invasion of Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM).
