The 19th annual Running Bear 5K Run/Walk and 1/2-mile Kids’ Run will take place on July 28.

The Glen Arbor Women’s Club is hosting the event as a fundraiser for scholarships for Glen Lake High School seniors.

The family-friendly event offers something for everyone. Participants can run or walk the 5K. As a chip timed event, there are 16 categories from 10 & under to 80+ as well as an Overall Best Award for the top male and female runner. Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery.

In addition, there is ½ Mile Kids’ Run for our younger runners. They get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Cherry Republic.

The event is staged at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and the race will leave from the corner of Lake and State Streets at 9 a.m. The Kids’ Run follows at 9:05 a.m.

The race will start with the National Anthem and our Mascot “Running Bear” will cheer on all our runners and charm all the children. Great food is offered to all our runners too so enjoy!

Ninety percent of all proceeds go for college scholarships for Glen Lake students with the balance going for community projects. This year, the Glen Arbor Women’s Club gave out seven scholarships totaling $22,500.

They also contributed to the Glen Arbor Art Association and Share Care of Leelanau.

The cost is $30 for the 5K Run/Walk ($35, the day of the Run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run. All are encouraged to register early by going online at www. runningbearrun.com. An early registration will also take place at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 27. Participants can register there and already registered runners can pick up their bibs as well!! A limited number of T-shirts will be available for purchase and ordered shirts can be picked up.
