To the editor:
The opportunity for all registered voters to vote by mail in Michigan was overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2018 and expanded in 2022. Mail-in voting has proven to be highly popular in Michigan, especially in Leelanau County, which has the highest percentage of votes cast by mail (50.5%) of all Michigan counties. The League of Women Voters of Michigan supported both proposals because they made voting more accessible for registered voters while preserving protections against election fraud.
Broad, vague allegations of mail-in voting fraud in Michigan have proven baseless. There are checks and balances throughout the process. Even if you have already filled out your absentee ballot and want to change your vote because a candidate dropped out, as with a recent Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan.
