The “Swim for Grand Traverse Bay,” a 2-mile point-to-point, open water swim benefiting The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay is Aug. 8.

Registration is currently open for swimmers, support paddlers and volunteers who play a vital role in making the event safe, successful, and enjoyable for participants.

“The Swim for Grand Traverse Bay is a unique opportunity for our community of passionate swimmers to experience firsthand the water we all work to protect,” said Christine Crissman, executive director of  The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay. “Every year, dedicated volunteers help create a safe and memorable event. We encourage anyone who cares about the health of Grand Traverse Bay and enjoys being part of a meaningful community event to join us.”

Volunteers will receive an event T-shirt and be treated to a complimentary pancake breakfast immediately following the event. Volunteer opportunities include:

• Safety Squad — Experienced kayaks are needed to help monitor swimmer and support paddlers along the course. Safety squad volunteers assist with swimmer counts, provide an additional layer of safety and visibility on the water, and help ensure a smooth event experience.

• General volunteers — Assist with event setup, participant check-in and packet pickup, course support, finish line activities, event cleanup, and other day-of-event tasks.

“The success of the Swim for Grand Traverse Bay depends on the enthusiasm and dedication of our volunteers,” Crissman said. “Their support helps us connect people to the bay while raising critical funds for clean water protection across the Grand Traverse region.”
