Low-interest disaster loans now available

Leelanau County residents and business owners affected by the severe storms that swept through the area this past April now have access to a type of low-interest federal disaster loans, according to Matt Ansorge, Leelanau County’s Emergency Management Director.

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Disaster Field Operations Center has notified the county that Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, non-profit organizations, and private homeowners throughout Leelanau County.

“Private homeowners throughout Leelanau County were substantially impacted by the severe weather event in April,” Ansorge said. “Even though our county lacked significant damage to public infrastructure, administrative leaders made the decision to declare a local state of emergency due to the widespread impact to private property and the potential for public losses should conditions worsen.”
