Bayshore Insurance is settling into its new storefront

Bayshore Insurance is settling into its new storefront
Bayshore Insurance is settling into its new storefront, next to Hansen's in Suttons Bay Wednesday with a ribbon cutting. “You get to see the comings and goings of everybody,” Principal Agent Don Nowka said. "Everyone's got to go to the grocery store, and it's just a bunch of good people coming down through here." The new spot is Bayshore's second office, alongside its main location in Traverse City, and the team is entirely local — a deliberate choice as more of the insurance industry shifts toward AI chat support and overseas call centers. "It's nice to have good people here in town that work for us," Nowka said, adding that private equity buyouts have made it harder for people across the county to reach their own agents - a gap Bayshore says it's stepped in to fill by simply calling people back. The agency covers the full range of coverage — auto, home, umbrella, life, and commercial insurance — with a team that includes several agents from the business insurance world. The owner's own background goes back to 2002, working claims, underwriting, and management at an insurance company before taking over the agency in 2016.
