Step Back in Time at Port Oneida Fair
The Port Oneida Fair returns Aug. 7-8, bringing visitors back to the late 1800s and early 1900s at five historic farm sites in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District.
This year's fair has been announced as the final Port Oneida Fair after more than two decades, reportedly due to declining attendance and funding.
Visitors can help bale hay, watch a broom maker at work, or learn hands-on skills such as spinning, basket weaving, soap making, butter making, candle dipping, and fur trapping. Park rangers and local historians will be on hand to share the area's history, and teams of oxen will haul hay as artists and craftsmen demonstrate their trades.
Each of the five farms hosts its own mix of artists, crafts, food and activities.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore presents the fair in partnership with Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. More information on supporting the park is available at www.phsb.org.
