To the editor:

I am writing to correct an assumption about the status of The Maritime Heritage Alliance located on M22 in Greilickville. The plan to construct a Freshwater Research Center in this location will necessitate our vacating our present shop and storage facilities as they will be torn down. We have had friends and volunteers express surprise that we are not included in the new building but it is true that we willnotbe. Whileourboatswill continue to be moored in Discovery Harbor, our shop and storage facilities must relocate. We must leave our present space by mid-October, 2025.

We have served the citizens of Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties from this location for 20 years so moving will be difficult. We are currently engaged in seeking a new onshore location for our shop and storage. We have a facilities committee meeting regularly to seek a new home and we have begun the establishment of a capital campaign to finance acquisition and moving. We have a long way to go and a short time to get there. Want to help? Look for us on Facebook or our website maritimeheritagealliance. org. Thanks
