Fly-in cancellation explained

To the editor:

We owe you an explanation. The Northport Lions Fly-In Pancake Breakfast was canceled after careful consideration of the weather forecast, which we had been monitoring throughout the week.

Rain and low cloud ceilings — dropping to as low as 1,000 feet on the day of the event — made conditions unsafe for small aircraft.
