To the editor:
On the way to Traverse City on M-22 there is a big blue sign that says “People over Billionaires” and to vote for democrats.
So billionaires are not people? Actually, they are simply people with the talent, ambition, and drive to earn a lot of money! You know, the American dream. In fact, the rich are the people who provide the capital formation which is the engine of any economy. They are the people who produce things and who create employment opportunities for the less talented and these employed workers are the taxpayers who fund the government. The top 1% pay 38% of all income taxes, by the way, despite earning 22% of GDP and the top 5% provide 60% of all tax revenue. The bottom 50%, democrat voters mostly, kick in about 2-3%. So ignore this sign and their sad politics of envy and be sure to vote Republican this November.
