The Cleveland Township Board is moving forward with a proposed $1.1 million project to improve drainage at the Little Traverse Lake and Shalda Creek crossing, with a vote last week to begin the process of creating a special assessment district for the 172 lakefront properties.
The resolution unanimously approved on August 11 does not establish the final amount each property owner would pay. Instead, it tentatively declares the township’s intent to create the district and sets a public hearing for September 8 during the regular meeting to discuss the proposed improvements, estimated cost and district boundaries.
The proposed project is intended to improve the flow of water through the Shalda Creek crossing on West Little Traverse Lake Road during high water events, like those experienced earlier this year, which have caused flooding concerns for property owners around Little Traverse Lake.
