To the editor:
How much do you think a billionaire would be discomforted by a few tens of thousands in wealth tax? His (yes, billionaires are overwhelmingly male) wealth fluctuates more than that every week on the stock market. And that wealth is made possible and protected by the legal system, the courts, and government security, and enhanced by public education of his genius employees — all at the taxpayer’s expense. (Remember, a billion is a thousand million, a hundred thousand times ten thousand).
Think what that wealth tax might do if spread around families near the poverty line: nourishment for hungry children, full dose medicine for adults who sacrifice it to support their children, warmth in the winter... “People over Billionaires” is not grievance; it is human decency, it is American.
