Woolsey Airport terminal phase one repair and maintenance will be completed in the months ahead after the Leelanau Township board voted to approve costs up to $10,000 at its regular meeting on August 11.
The approval of funding for completion of phase one Woolsey repair work also includes the painting of the dome atop the terminal. In addition, the board approved a bill from Hallmark Construction totaling $17,398 for Woolsey terminal repair.
According to the township supervisor’s August report, the board tabled the consideration of phase II of the airport terminal repair last month, but the remaining work on phase one, which includes work on the drainage and repair of tile, needed approval in the meantime.
Mark Krueger, a Leelanau Township resident and an engineer overseeing the restoration project, suggested that the roof be painted as a protection matter, with the cost covered from the allocation the board made in the previous budget year. The supervisor report also noted that there is “a change order that reduces the contract amount to $125,245 from the original $131,960.” Funds received from grants and donations will be used first towards these expenses, and the board’s allocated funds for the Woolsey repair will pay for the rest.
In August 2025, the township approved funds not to exceed $152,700 to pursue a reduced scope of phase one work for the airport terminal. Approximately $100,000 of the total funds approved is part of a monetary commitment from the township for the airport restoration project. Phase one of Woolsey repair work began in September 2025, with the goal being to keep the water out of the building to stop the deterioration.
