The Northport Arts Association (NAA) has lots going on over the coming weeks. The Invitational Artists exhibit continues through September 12 on Tuesdays through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. This week wraps up the first artist in residence at the Clay Studio. Chicago-based artist Honey Nilson has been there since August 9, and her last day is this Saturday. Many thanks to Kris and Betsy Ernst for launching this program, and to Skyehouse for helping with accommodations. The NAA also wants to thank its volunteer gardeners who done such a great job. They are Susan and John Husken, Tom Whitney, Nance Schuman, who is retiring, and Janet Dickerson, who is “semi-retired”, having celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year. They are looking for volunteers to join the team. Information on volunteering is on the website. Also on the NAA website is information about their many classes — drawing, painting, metalworking, printing on silk, and quite a few in the clay studio.
Last Sunday was a beautiful, albeit breezy, day for the Omena Historical Society (OHS) Annual meeting on the lawn at Sunset Lodge in Omena. Congratulations to Marsha Buehler who received the OHS Distinguished Service for her many years of dedicated work on achieving listing on the National Register of Historic Places. And this was only one of her many contributions. Others included having a key role in obtaining the historic Putnam Cloud house and its relocation to downtown Omena, serving on the OHS Board, and her work on the OHS archives and many exhibits.
