With the Mill Pond Dam millage question now approved and set to appear on the November 3 general election ballot, the Northport Village Council plans to provide further information to electors about the proposal in the months ahead.
Earlier this month, the village council voted 4-1 to approve ballot language of a millage proposition to levy a 1.24 mill tax for the replacement and reconstruction of the Mill Pond Dam. The millage proposition would authorize the levy of 1.24 mills ($1.24 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of 20 years, beginning in 2027 and continuing through 2046, inclusive. It’s estimated that the levy of 1.24 mills would raise approximately $103,524 in the first year the millage is levied.
The Northport Village Council discussed at its regular meeting on Aug. 20 the idea of developing a public information effort to provide voters with more context of the millage and dam before the upcoming election.
