Northport Public School first welcomed students in 1855. It is difficult to imagine how school has changed over all those years. However, it is safe to assume that those first day of school emotions – excitement, nervousness, apprehension – remain the same. Humans thrive on consistency, so it is reassuring to be entering the 2026-27 school year with minimal changes.
New Programs
For the last decade, the district spent considerable effort ensuring that their academic foundation was solid. It is not possible for graduates to leave high school college- and career-ready if they lack foundational skills. Through all of this hard work, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, https://www.mackinac. org/s2025-03, recently ranked Northport Public School’s elementary and middle schools 26th out of the entire state, which includes 2,188 schools. Additionally, the report ranked them the eighth-best rural public school in the state. Finally, the report ranked them the seventh most improved school in the state since 2019. The Mackinac Center does not have current rankings for high schools.
