New vaccine guidelines won’t affect state requirements

New federal recommendations for childhood vaccines could change the way some vaccines are recommended nationwide, but for families in Leelanau County, the changes have not yet affected Michigan’s school vaccination requirements.

Michelle Klein, director of personal health for the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department (BLDHD), said families should continue following existing vaccination recommendations as the 2026-27 school year begins.

“At this point, nothing at all has changed,” Klein said.
