A group of St. Peter’s Episcopal Chapel members traveled from Leland to the Dominican Republic last month, completing service work at a local church and school in the area.
The youth mission trip to the Diocese of the Dominican Republic was from July 28 through Aug. 7, and while it was the first mission trip for the church this year, the Rt. Rev. Charles Bennison said it would not be their last.
The group of seven people from Fishtown helped paint a newly built church, La Iglesia de Santo Nombre de Jesus, in Santana, Dominican Republic. After painting the church, the group attended its first Mass in the building. They also traveled to a school, El Colegio de San Mateo in Nizao, where church members helped paint the building and gave new donated school supplies to the students. The supplies were purchased through donations to St. Peter’s and were the first new school supplies the kids had received.
