Remember ‘labor’ on Labor Day

As summer is on the downslope, we must recognize the Leelanau workforce for their impressive efforts this summer, from restaurants to hospitality to the trades, among many others.

Labor Day began in the late 19th century as a tribute to the American labor movement, honoring the social and economic contributions workers have made to the strength and prosperity of the country.

The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City on September 5, 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union, and the holiday became a federal one in 1894, signed into law by President Grover Cleveland.
