The bridge walk over the Straits of Mackinac has nothing on Leelanau County.
Leelanau hosts three walks of its own over the holiday weekend.
The first is the Lake Leelanau Community Association (LLCA) Labor Day Bridge Walk. Participants will begin at 9 a.m. from the Pedaling Beans parking lot and cross the Lake Leelanau Narrows bridge (M-204) and finish at Boathouse Vineyards.
This will be followed by the 6th Annual LLCA Narrows Duck Derby at 10 a.m. Ducks are available for $10 each at the Boathouse parking lot. They will be dumped south of the bridge, near the DNR boat launch.
Prizes will be awarded. There will be refreshments and live music.
Must be present to win. Two other walks are scheduled at noon Monday in Leland and near Glen Lake.
The Mighty Leland Bridge Walk draws locals and longtime summer residents for one last hurrah of summer.
Participants gather at 11:30 a.m., in the parking lot behind the Blue Bird before trekking over the rivers and the walk starts at noon. Those who complete the brief walk will have refreshments and receive certificates of participation.
And last, but not least, the Grand Daddy of them all — the Glen Lake Bridge Walk. Initiated in 1995, the walk over the Carl Oleson, Jr. Bridge, is the county’s longest at one-third of a mile.
The Empire Area Community Center organizes the walk each year. Walkers meet at the north end of the Narrows bridge and head south.
There will be refreshments, T-shirts for sale and a whole lotta fun to be had.
Not part of the talks, the St. Mary’s Annual Labor Day Quilt Show & Bake Sale in Lake Leelanau is this weekend.
For 2026, the event takes place on Saturday and Sunday under the big tent on the grounds of St. Mary School, 303 St. Mary’s Street.
Offerings include over 100 handmade, local quilts available for display and purchase, alongside a large bake sale and an annual quilt raffle.
Historically, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
