A special “emergency” meeting of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners will be held tonight, Thursday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. to discuss and potentially act on the “Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department Mask Order” affecting schools. *** When the novel coronavirus first started up in the U.S. back in January, no one could have predicted the pandemic would still be going on 18 months later. COVID-19 has impacted almost everyone’s life, either directly or indirectly. One possible benefit for county public schools is that most have seen an increase in student enrollments as families have relocated to Leelanau County to get away from COVID19-heavy area in larger down state communities.
