Visitation during July and August normally said everything about the popularity of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore from one year to the next, but that rule may be broken in 2021. For some reason — even Lakeshore deputy superintendent Tom Ulrich can’t put a finger on one — fewer visitors were counted at the park during the past two months than in any year dating back to 2015. *** While estimates of the number of refugees that have escaped from Afghanistan following America’s hasty withdraw vary, the number seven stands out in Leelanau County. That’s the size of the Afghan family that the extended Ann and Don Gregory family are assimilating into American culture. The Gregorys are cherry farmers in Leelanau County and principals in Shoreline Fruit, a processing company based in Williamsburg.
