Leelanau Energy will mark its second annual SunDay: A Day of Action for a Sun Powered Planet with free public events on and around the fall equinox, Sept. 20 and 22 centered on solar power, renewable energy and practical steps toward a cleaner energy future in Leelanau County.
“We have free energy from the sun, and we know how to harvest it,” Anne Harper, cochair of the Leelanau Energy SunDay Initiative said. “So why don’t we do it?”
The centerpiece event will an speech from nationally known environmentalist and climate communicator Peter Sinclair, set for 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Suttons Bay Friendship Community Center. Sinclair, who has worked with Yale Climate Connections will give a talk titled “No Climate Haven Michigan’s Warming Impacts and Solutions.” Harper explained that the title pushes back on the idea that Michigan is somehow insulated from climate change which is fitting as Sinclair’s career has in part been built on dispelling climate mis- and disinformation.
