To the editor:
In 1860 America’s economy was half of England’s, by 1910 it had doubled the British and America was the freest, most prosperous nation in human history. A beacon of liberty and magnet to all. All due to that divinely-inspired “game plan” bequeathed by the Founders to every American today, the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. That GREAT GIFT all Americans receive at birth, having their God-given rights CODIFIED INTO THE LAW ITSELF (the exceptional nation). Your heritage of being free to chart your own course and to go as far as talent, ambition, and effort might take you, with the Constitution your unbreakable shield against government mischief (the freedom to act, wellspring of endless prosperity). Yet in 2026 many Leelanau folk want to throw away that gift in favor of centralized authoritarian control, of failed Marxist sophistries, of “the warmth of collectivism”. (This is incomprehensible to Americans who value liberty and who didn’t sleep through the 20th century and their history and civics classes.) Are they truly so easily charmed and beguiled by a slick, antisemitic, Maoist runt in a black muscle shirt who peddles failed communist dogma over free market capitalism and every principle of free enterprise and choice? The myth of “free” health care and other fantasies? Will Leelanau vote for liberty or its abysmal alternative? As Patrick Henry famously said, “I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me ‘the frigidity of rugged individualism’ anytime.”
Save Michigan, save America. Vote Republican.
