A better Bingham

To the editor:

It’s been about a month since 40 Bingham residents turned out at the Bingham Township Board meeting to support development and enforcement of a blight ordinance. The Board heard from many people (affectionately referred to as “you people”) who were frustrated with lack of action by the Board even though it’s been a noted problem for over 20 years. At that same meeting, the Board reluctantly agreed to hold a special work session to discuss it. It’s a start but certainly no guarantee that anything will come from it.

I’d like to state that a blight ordinance is not a radical idea coming out of nowhere. Many of you have HOA’s that have something similar. Several Leelanau townships have them and its done state and nationwide. When written and enforced properly, it’s a common sense approach to keeping our township beautiful. It’s something that most of us are already proudly doing. Is that asking too much? I don’t think so.
