Romanticizing on purpose

As we transition between seasons, I’ve been thinking a lot about romanticization. It’s hard not to romanticize life in Leelanau. There are so many moments in everyday life here that are straight off of a postcard or cinematic without trying. We live somewhere that is in many ways, already romanticized and aspirational.

I’ve noticed that romanticizing your life has become a sort of past time for my generation. There’s this quote that floats around that says “the happiest people romanticize their life because they know magic exists where they choose to find it.”

And I don’t disagree with that, but in the context of people my age, I can’t help but see a bit of my generation’s ingrained nihilism there as well.
