Glen Lake senior Avery Flores led the Lakers to a three-set sweep against Suttons Bay Tuesday (25-21, 25-14, 25-11) with 13 kills, three blocks, four digs and two aces.
“We had really great communication and our energy was a lot higher than it's normally been,” Flores said. “That really brought our team together and made us play together as a team … We need to focus and practice game-like situations and have that competitiveness in every situation.”
Glen Lake (5-5-1) battles Kalkaska next Thursday at 7 p.m., and Suttons Bay (9-5-2) travels to Mesick next Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
The Lakers held off Suttons Bay in the first set, 25-21, then took care of business over the next two. Flores and Glen Lake junior Delanie Dembowske kept the party going in the second set with multiple spikes and blocks.
Dembowske had six kills, five aces, and a block, while Nadia Ihme had five kills and five blocks.
Olivia Reed had 5 aces, 6 digs, kill; Lydia Fosmore 2 digs, 2 kills, 2 blocks; Faith Steffens 2 aces, 3 digs, 2 kills; Emma Boscher 3 kills, 2 blocks; Nora Ciolek 3 digs; Janai Misner 5 aces, 10 digs.
Ava Anderson led Suttons Bay with 13 kills, five digs and two aces, while Leah Clarke had 19 assists and Olive Craker had four kills. The Norse are 0-4-2 over their last six games.
Glen Lake bounces back after losing a five-set thriller to Benzie Central last week. The Lakers are hanging around the top of the Northwest Conference behind the Buckley Bears in first place.
