Sugar Loaf Scenic Area opens Oct. 9

The last time Karen Rennie stood atop Sugar Loaf Mountain was in 2016 — when she and her late husband Jim — renewed their wedding vows.

She will be among the community, Leelanau Conservancy staff and others participating in the official opening of the Sugar Loaf Scenic Area Oct. 9. at 5 p.m.

“I was a 4-year-old and I learned to ski on the backside (of the mountain),” said Rennie. “We’d take a tow rope to the top and my dad put me between his legs to go down the hill.”
