Longtime DPW worker Dave Tompkins celebrates retirement

Longtime Village of Northport Department of Public Works (DPW) employee Dave Tompkins is officially celebrating retirement after 24 years of service to the community.

“I’m definitely going to miss the people,” Tompkins said. “I had a retirement party and I was surprised. I thought there might be six or eight people there but there were over 30… It was very nice and that’s probably what I’ll miss the most: the people and community, but I still plan on being part of the community in some aspect.”

The DPW team is responsible for numerous tasks around the village that ultimately help maintain infrastructure and provide essential services yearround. In his role as DPW senior water operator, Tompkins oversaw the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the village’s water system, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and delivering safe, reliable drinking water to the community. The job also included assisting with street and sidewalk maintenance, snow and ice removal, water and sewer operations.
