Lake Leelanau Street Fair Saturday

The Lake Leelanau Community Association will host its annual Lake Leelanau Street Fair and Harvest Festival Saturday(LLSF).

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is sure to provide plenty of fun and entertainment for locals and visitors alike.

The LLSF features live music by three local musical groups. Miriam Pico will engage the crowd from noon to 1:30 p.m. with her kid-friendly playlist. Children of all ages will love her interactive performance, with dancing encouraged.

Rolling Styx will be on stage from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

This newly formed group had an accidental start when local musicians Sandy Dhuyvetter and George Powell brought a few friends together for a jam session. The results have proven to be a fun group with a great sound.

The headline group for this year’s event is Empire Highway, performing from 4 to 6 p.m.. Empire Highway delivers highenergy Rock & Roll, featuring a dynamic set list spanning iconic ‘90s covers, newer chart-toppers, and timeless classics. Their diverse repertoire ensures an engaging and nostalgic experience for their audience.

In addition to the music, the event offers face painting for kids, and a caricature artist. One of the favorite attractions is a petting zoo, brought to the event by the Grant Family of Double Oak Farm. The zoo includes small farm animals, and a few larger ones, as well. This is a perfect opportunity to get a close-up experience with farm animals.

The LLSF involves closing down Main and Meinrad streets, and the streets will be lined with artisan and craft vendor booths. The offerings include jewelry, pottery, fiber crafts, fine artwork, photography and much more. Traditionally a few booths with local farm goods, including honey and maple syrup products can be found.

Mary Lingaur, co-chairperson speaks highly of the vendors secured for the event.

“The vendors who turn out for our event are so talented. They have so many quality, handmade and lovely items to sell. We couldn’t be more proud of the high-caliber artisans that present theirgoods,” shesaid.

The food options at the LLSF include authentic Mexican food by Taqueria Mosqueda, BBQ meats and more by the Pleva Family, smoked goodness from Locals Lake Leelanau, as well as Meredith Family’s Kettle Corn.

“Two years ago we moved our event to October in the interest of getting away from the busyness of summer in Leelanau County. We’re grateful that our event seems to get better each year! The crowd is so energized, and the fall weather presents a cozy, country feeling that just cannot be beat. In addition to the Street Fair itself, we hope that our event will draw people to the area to support the local businesses and experience the Lake Leelanau charm. We encourage you to come out and support this year’s event. You won’t be disappointed,” said cochairperson, Patrice Korson.
